About Us

Welcome to our school!

Luganville International School is a not-for-profit organisation founded in 2016 and located in Northern Vanuatu. The school was originally founded by a group of parents who wanted their children to attend a school with a quality education on the island of Espiritu Santo.  We have steadily grown in enrolments over the years, from 8 students in 2016 to 80 in 2024 with 12 teaching staff. We have students from Australia, New Zealand, Korea, China, the Philippines and Colombia, but the majority of our students are Ni-Vanuatu.

The purpose of Luganville International School is to provide a quality education to the community in Espiritu Santo. We use the title ‘International School’ to describe our reality as a multicultural community. Our school uses the Australian Curriculum and the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) for our teaching. Currently, we offer education from Pre-kindergarten to Year 9, but we’re hoping to offer Years 10 and 11 in 2025.

Our aim is to produce confident, self-motivated and open-minded students who can operate well both in local and international environments with a strong proficiency in English. We aim to produce students who are active members of their communities. Our school promotes life-long learning, provides opportunities for character-building and aims to provide an outward-looking orientation in our students.

As a school, our goal is to become an integral part of the educational scene in Luganville and, more generally, in the northern region of Vanuatu. In future years, we wish to extend our teaching up to secondary high school years and to provide pathways to tertiary studies.

We are in a unique position as we are the only institution in Northern Vanuatu that offers high quality education following Australian standards. As such, we can fill in a gap for those members (or potential future members) of the community who seek quality education opportunities for their children. Our school has tremendous potential to become a valuable pull factor for the island of Espiritu Santo.
